Athlone Town Secures Europa Cup Berth with 2-0 Win Over Red Star
In a thrilling match played in the Netherlands, Athlone Town secured their place in the first qualifying round of the inaugural UEFA Women's Europa Cup with a 2-0 victory over Red Star.
The Irish team took the lead early in the game, as Kelly Brady scored the opening goal in the 12th minute, thanks to a well-timed assist from Madie Gibson. Gibson once again proved instrumental in the second goal, providing a cross from the left that allowed Roisin Molloy to score in the 50th minute, following a brilliant combination with Gibson.
Athlone Town's midfield duo of Waesch and Slevin had a solid performance, preventing Red Star from finding space and creating numerous opportunities for the Irish team. Kayleigh Shine made a crucial block to thwart Red Star's best opportunity, while the defence, marshalled by K Brennan and Shauna Brennan, held firm throughout the game.
