Artificial Intelligence innovation by DOGE aims at reducing redundant federal rules and regulations

The Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), founded by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, has unveiled an ambitious plan to make government more efficient and streamline the ways of Washington. At the heart of this plan is the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to review federal regulations for potential elimination.

The AI tool has already been used in over 1,000 regulatory assessments at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and has resulted in "100% of deregulations" at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). According to reports, about 100,000 of these rules should be considered for elimination based on the AI tool's review and feedback from DOGE staffers.

The plan is in its early stages and is being conducted in a creative way in consultation with the White House. The DOGE team is working on an unprecedented plan to slash 63 regulations, with the aim of concluding comment periods and issuing final rules in November and December. The goal is to "relaunch America" by January 20, 2026, which is the one-year anniversary of Trump's inauguration.

The group's presentation slides suggest that cutting regulations by half would save about $1.5 trillion in compliance costs annually, spur $600 billion in investment, yield $1.1 trillion in revenue, and shrink the federal budget by $85 billion.

Federal agencies are supposed to complete their lists of regulations to eliminate in less than four weeks (Sept. 1). The DOGE team is set to begin training agency staffers on the use of the AI tool this month. The process includes submitting notices of proposed rulemakings (NPRMs) for review by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs and public comment.

The current head of the Department of Government Efficiency under the Trump administration responsible for developing the AI-based deregulation decision tool is not specified in the available search results. However, it is known that an ally of Elon Musk who worked on DOGE has left the government. Musk himself is no longer with DOGE.

The U.S. is expected to save trillions of dollars through reduced compliance expenditures if these regulations are eliminated. The DOGE experts creating these plans are the best and brightest in the business, bringing a fresh perspective to government efficiency and deregulation. The plan aims to make government more efficient and streamline the ways of Washington, setting the stage for a potential regulatory overhaul.
