Artificial Intelligence currently relies on human involvement, according to a new study
In the bustling city of New York, the mayoral race is drawing national attention. This year, the race has been marked by unexpected twists and turns, with underdog Zohran Mamdani's Democratic nomination victory over former state Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Adams' brush with the law.
Amidst the political drama, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has made a surprising move by integrating AI photos and videos into his reelection campaign. This marks one of the first instances of AI being used in politics, as Adams seeks to leverage technology to publicize his message and connect with voters.
While Adams' campaign isn't relying solely on AI, the technology offers him a low-cost opportunity to quickly create promotional material, respond to current events, and entertain voters. In a world where funding can often make or break a campaign, this low-cost strategy could prove advantageous.
The use of AI in politics isn't limited to New York City. On a larger scale, AI could help low-profile candidates with limited funding publicize their message, leveling the playing field in political campaigns.
Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, the island of Anguilla has also embraced technology, but in a different context. The British Overseas Territory has made millions from the .ai web domain, which it manages. Last year, Anguilla generated $39 million from selling its .ai domain, and expects to make $48.8 million this year and $51 million in 2026.
The business of selling .ai domains could allow Anguilla to diversify its economy, which is largely reliant on tourism dollars at risk each hurricane season. The .ai domain has become highly sought after in recent years due to the AI boom, with nearly 880,000 registered domains ending in .ai. This number almost doubled in a year.
However, the rise of AI has also sparked concerns about job losses. AI leaders have warned that entire classes of workers could be wiped out in the coming years. Yet, there's a silver lining: entirely new jobs are expected to surface with the AI boom, and some artists have already begun to experience their job descriptions in a post-AI world.
In the near term, the New York Federal Reserve has reported that manufacturing and service industries in the region are mostly safe from job losses due to new technologies. Managers are increasingly opting to retrain their employees rather than laying them off.
As AI continues to evolve and permeate various aspects of our lives, it will be interesting to see how it shapes politics and other industries in the future. Whether it's helping low-profile candidates in political campaigns or transforming the creative process in software development and journalism, AI's impact is undeniable.
