Artificial intelligence chatbots to be created for countries including India, Indonesia, and Mexico, with contract workers earning strongly criticized low hourly wages.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is making significant strides in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) by integrating an external subscription service provided by Piano and hiring US-based contractors to develop culturally sensitive AI chatbots for India, Indonesia, and Mexico.
The new AI chatbots, fluent in local languages such as Hindi, Indonesian, and Spanish, are designed specifically for these markets. Meta is investing heavily in this venture, with contractors earning up to $55 per hour. The company is seeking individuals with fluency in Hindi, Indonesian, Spanish, and Portuguese for these positions.
The integration of Piano's subscription service and the development of these AI chatbots have sparked some public concerns. However, Meta assures users that their privacy is a top priority. Users can view Meta's privacy policy and privacy statement in the footer of the service, and they are required to agree to the terms before using the service.
Usage profiles may be based on cookie IDs, and users can withdraw their consent at any time via the "Withdraw Tracking" link in the footer of the service. It's worth noting that data transfer to third countries, including the USA, is allowed under Art 49 (1) (a) GDPR.
Moreover, Piano may create and enrich usage profiles, even outside the European Economic Area (EEA). The privacy policy and privacy statement provide detailed information on data processing.
In light of these developments, Meta continues to invest in AI chatbots, aiming to provide a more personalised and culturally sensitive user experience for its international audience.
