The historic Atelierhaus in Wiesbaden, once the Werk and Art School, has reopened its doors after eight years of meticulous renovation. The architectural office Lehners & Barbian was commissioned for the transformation, breathing new life into the old building.

Under the leadership of Vincent Weber (1954 - 1965), the Werk and Kunstschule became a renowned training institution oriented towards the Bauhaus. Fast forward to 1988, the building was converted into an Atelierhaus, providing spaces for fourteen regional and international artists from various fields to work.

The Atelierhaus is now home to the Kunsthaus, a venue for exhibitions and events. The Kunsthalle, opened in 2011, serves as a space for these exhibitions. The Kunsthaus hosts six to eight exhibitions annually, offering a rich cultural experience for the city's residents and visitors.

One of the upcoming exhibitions is "Faceless. Women in Prostitution," which will open on September 10, 2025, in the newly designed Aula. The exhibition aims to shed light on the experiences of women in prostitution, providing a platform for discourse and understanding.

The Kunsthaus has become an "oasis of art" and a place for discursive exchange about art, according to Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, the Culture Commissioner. Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende expressed his pleasure at the reopening, stating that it is a significant step forward for Wiesbaden's cultural scene.

In addition to exhibitions, the Kunsthaus also houses the Artothek, a collection of 4000 art treasures that can be loaned for homes. The Kunsthaus will celebrate its history and future on September 6, 2022, with open ateliers, workshops, performances, and artist talks.

The general renovation of the municipal Kunsthaus was approved by the city council in 2015. Furthermore, a grant was approved from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety for the energetic optimization of the building, ensuring its sustainability for future generations.

The Kunsthaus, located on the Schulberg, is now a place for art production, offering innovative and inclusive event and mediation formats. Citizens can contact the responsible department or office with any questions regarding the Kunsthaus and its activities.
