Art Deco design's centennial is honored in a fresh exhibition in Paris, and it's a must-see spectacle!
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris is set to host an extraordinary exhibition, 1925-2025. A Hundred Years of Art Deco, from October 21, 2025, to February 22, 2026. Nathalie Crinière serves as the General Commissioner for this unparalleled event.
This exhibition will guide visitors on a captivating journey through a century of Art Deco, showcasing furniture, fashion, jewelry, glass, graphic arts, and architecture. The Orient Express, a train embodying Art Deco luxury, will be at the heart of the experience, providing a unique backdrop for the display of nearly a thousand works from museum collections and prestigious loans.
Art Deco, born in the 1910s, emerged as a response to the curves of Art Nouveau, characterized by a desire for order and elegance. The style imposed its geometric lines, balanced proportions, and restrained sensuality in the 1920s.
The exhibition will feature the elegant silhouettes of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann's creations, the refined purity of Eileen Gray, and the subtle sobriety of Jean-Michel Frank. Raymond Templier and Jean Desprès' graphic jewels will be showcased, responding to various fashion pieces like Madeleine Pangon's embroidered capes, Jeanne Lanvin's dresses, and Sonia Delaunay's textiles.
The scenography of the exhibition will highlight the diversity of Art Deco expressions, with each room revealing a different facet of the style. Visitors will pass from a bar car imagined for the 21st century to the historic 1926 cabin, as if crossing a temporal threshold.
Maxime d'Angeac has reinvented the future model of the Orient Express, combining excellence in craftsmanship with visionary design. The Orient Express's decors, reinterpreted by Maxime d'Angeac, feature decors from René Prou and René and Suzanne Lalique.
Cartier will exhibit over eighty exceptional pieces, including necklaces, diadems, and necessaires, that translate the formal inventiveness and symbolic richness of the house. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs' scenography will also emphasize the diversity of Art Deco expressions, questioning the relevance of the style and its power to seduce, a century after its birth, by opening the way to new interpretations.
The Orient Express is currently located under the vault of the nave of the MAD Paris, awaiting departure.
