Arson committed by children in Eferding, resulting in house fire

A fire broke out in a multi-family building in the Eferding district on Friday, causing significant property damage. The incident began on a balcony, and investigations suggest that it was likely started by children playing with a lighter.

Luckily, the tenant and her two young children were able to save themselves. However, the initial attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful. Residents of other apartments were evacuated due to the spreading smoke.

The smoke caused two individuals, a 33-year-old and a 37-year-old, to require treatment by emergency services. The fire departments eventually managed to extinguish the fire, preventing any further damage or injuries.

Investigations further reveal that the children were unsupervised when they caused the fire. The extent of the damage in the specific context of the building is yet to be fully assessed by experts. Some of the damage affected neighboring apartments in the floors above, in the Mattighofen context.

This incident serves as a reminder to always supervise children around potential fire hazards, and to ensure safety measures are in place in multi-family buildings. The investigations are ongoing to gather more details about the incident.
