Arrest made on market debut for alleged handbag theft attempt
In a recent incident, a 26-year-old man was apprehended by the police near Fleischmengergasse, following a handbag snatching attempt at Neumarkt in Cologne on August 14, around 3 pm.
According to the police, the suspect approached two women on a bicycle and attempted to snatch one of their handbags. However, the woman resisted, and the man fled without the handbag. The police were alerted to the incident after hearing screams and noticing a scuffle.
Despite the efforts of the officers, the identities of the two unknown women on bicycles at the crime scene remain unknown. They fled before being identified and having their personal data recorded. The police are appealing to these women directly involved in the incident to come forward as witnesses.
Intriguingly, a search conducted after the arrest revealed jewelry believed to have been stolen in other thefts. The origins of these stolen items are currently under investigation. The police are also investigating additional thefts involving similar stolen items.
