Arrest Made in Alleged Break-In Attempt (Esslingen)

In the quiet residential area of Mülbergerstraße, Reutlingen, a dramatic incident unfolded on Monday evening. A witness alerted the police after noticing two unknown men, partly masked, casing a residential building.

The public prosecutor's office in Stuttgart and the Esslingen Criminal Police Directorate have been investigating a 28-year-old man since the incident. However, the identity of the witness who alerted the authorities remains unknown.

The investigation led to a tense confrontation. One of the suspects was discovered by the first police unit on the scene and fled, eventually being temporarily arrested after resisting orders and being sprayed with pepper spray. The arrested suspect was later examined by the rescue service as a precaution and suffered minor eye irritation.

During his search, several screwdrivers, a flashlight, and the man's mask were found and secured. The 28-year-old was presented to the examining judge at Esslingen District Court on Tuesday afternoon.

The second suspect managed to escape and a subsequent search remained unsuccessful. Further investigations, including into the possible accomplice of the suspect, are ongoing.

The arrested suspect is currently in custody at a detention facility. An inspection of the building revealed signs of forced entry on a cellar door and overturned furniture on an externally accessible balcony.
