Arkansas man wins $1.338 million after last-minute lottery switch
An Arkansas lottery player has won a $1.338-million prize after checking his ticket in the early hours of October 20. The lucky winner had purchased the ticket just five days earlier, on October 15, for a Lotto game with a $1-million jackpot.
The winning numbers drawn were 1, 5, 23, 30, 23, 40, with a bonus number of 33. The player, who had originally intended to play Mega Millions, switched to Lotto at the last moment. His decision paid off when he verified his ticket at 4:30 am and discovered the life-changing win.
The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, established in 2009, has seen steady growth over the years. Initially offering jackpots between $1 million and $5 million, average prize amounts now exceed $10 million due to rolling jackpots. By 2025, the number of million-dollar winners had climbed from just 12 in the first year to over 150 in total. The lottery has also contributed more than $2 billion to scholarship funding since its launch.
The latest winner joins a growing list of Arkansas lottery millionaires. His prize of $1.338 million adds to the state's record of over 150 top-tier winners. The funds generated continue to support educational scholarships across Arkansas.
