Aragon region schools will introduce their own cooking facilities to combat the chill in cafeterias
Aragon Schools to Introduce Modern Dining Facilities
Starting next Monday, ten schools in the Aragon community will be introducing a significant change to their dining facilities. The schools, including the Colegio Público San José de Calasanz, will eliminate the cold line or catering and use their newly installed stoves to prepare school menus.
This initiative is part of a plan promoted by the Department of Education to improve school dining rooms, which has received an investment of around two million euros. The total investment in the ten centers, including the kitchen at CEIP Hispanidad in Zaragoza, will also amount to two million euros.
The schools in Huesca lead the way with 85% of their centers having their own kitchen, followed by Teruel with around 50%, and Zaragoza with 44%. More than half of the schools in the Aragon community have their own kitchen for preparing school menus.
The dining room is considered a place for promoting personal development, autonomy, and coexistence of students, as well as facilitating family conciliation and promoting healthy eating habits. The school Hispanidad in Zaragoza now boasts a larger, more modern, and functional dining room with a professional kitchen.
The kitchen at CEIP Hispanidad in Zaragoza is equipped with state-of-the-art professional equipment such as an electric steam jacketed kettle, a combination oven, an electric stove, an extractor hood with a fire safety system, refrigerated cabinets and freezers, self-service furniture, a dishwasher, pass-throughs, and other elements.
With this upgrade, more than 165 menus will be prepared daily, and during the course, more than 260,000 new menus will be prepared and over 1,500 students will be fed with these new infrastructures.
Nine other centers (CEIP Los Albares, Guillermo Fatas, Marie Curie, CPI Parque Goya, Miguel Artazos, Cervantes, Ejea de los Caballeros, and María Moliner) will also inaugurate their kitchen installations, with the exception of CEIP Maria Moliner, which has its kitchen finished but is still waiting for service, and Marie Curie, which is still pending a hood equipped with a fire safety system.
The intention is to continue converting more dining rooms year by year, beyond the ten centers that have received funding so far. The functionality is only accessible for registered users, ensuring a more personalised dining experience for the students.
