Approximately RM91 million disbursed within two days under the SARA initiative
The Malaysian Ministry of Finance has announced that more than 7,300 retail outlets across the country are eligible to receive the RM100 credit, distributed to over 22 million Malaysians aged 18 and above between September 1 and December 31.
The one-time credit, aimed at boosting consumer spending, can be deposited on MyKad, the national identity card. However, some transaction processing issues at several locations, including Selangor, Perak, Sabah, and Melaka, were reported but not specifically addressed to have been resolved.
To assist with on-site issues and provide support to merchants, MyKasih staff were stationed at selected major supermarkets. The high shopper turnout during the long weekend holiday contributed to congestion at these supermarkets, particularly during peak hours between 1pm and 2.30pm.
Despite the congestion, the foundation reported 600,000 transactions were recorded by 5pm on September 1, and overall, 1.45 million transactions have been made nationwide over the two days. This represents a 20% increase from the same period on the first day.
To ensure smoother transactions, the foundation increased the processing capacity of SARA terminals by 60%. This move was intended to accommodate the high volume of transactions during the distribution period.
In addition to the one-time RM100 credit, an additional 5.4 million recipients received their monthly SARA credit today. The RM100 credit will be valid until December 31.
Despite the minor hiccups, the distribution of the RM100 credit has been well-received by the public, with the aim of stimulating economic activity and providing relief to Malaysians during these challenging times.
