Apple reportedly set to introduce AI-driven web search within Siri by the end of next year.

Apple is set to revolutionise its virtual assistant, Siri, with a new system that is rumoured to be powered by a custom version of Google's Gemini. This development, while expected to take some time, is being eagerly anticipated as it promises to create more powerful summaries than the currently anemic Siri.

The new Siri, internally known as World Knowledge Answers, is expected to offer a significant improvement in search capabilities. It will utilise Apple's unique access to text, photos, and videos, providing a more comprehensive and personalised search experience.

Google has already reportedly delivered Gemini's summarising tech to Apple, but it's still being fine-tuned. This collaboration comes amidst reports of AI psychosis that have been prevalent on the internet, necessitating caution in the development and implementation of generative artificial intelligence.

Privacy concerns persist with encrypted agentic AI capabilities, and Apple has taken steps to address these concerns. If used for some functions, the new Siri will run on Apple's own Private Cloud Compute servers to maintain privacy.

The launch of the AI-powered Siri was initially promised for June 2025, but was later delayed. This delay, coupled with Apple's seemingly lagging behind in AI implementation, has attracted criticism from investors. However, Tim Cook has recently expressed optimism about AI's transformative potential for Apple.

In addition to the new Siri, Apple is planning to launch a new AI-powered web search tool for Siri next year. This tool could potentially be integrated with Safari and Spotlight, further enhancing the AI capabilities of Apple's devices.

John Giannandrea, the manager leading Apple's AI projects, shares Cook's optimism. He described the AI revolution as "as big or bigger than the internet" because he believes AI will fundamentally transform technology and society similarly to the internet's impact.

Despite the hurdles in making AI safe, Apple continues to push forward in its AI development. The company, which previously considered buying Perplexity, is no longer interested, choosing instead to focus on its in-house AI projects.

The new iPhone, to be announced next week, is not expected to have major new AI features. However, the future of Apple's AI integration looks promising, with the company at the forefront of a potential AI revolution that Cook describes as "as big or bigger" than the internet.
