Apartment occupant on Houston's southwest side files lawsuit against complex, asserting that a neighbor's aggressive canine savagely attacked him.
In a distressing incident that took place on April 29, 2023, personal trainer Khashad McBean was attacked by a pitbull belonging to his neighbour at the Parkway/Parkgreen Apartments on Bellaire in Houston. The incident occurred approximately five feet away from the door.
As a result of the attack, Khashad was rushed to the emergency room. He suffered severe injuries, with his hand being bitten sharply and torn. He is currently experiencing loss of nerve function in his hand and permanent scarring due to the attack.
Khashad has filed a lawsuit against the apartment complex where he resides, alleging that the management failed to take appropriate action to prevent the dog from attacking him. The lawsuit also alleges that the apartment complex had a free-roam policy, which contributed to the incident.
Attorney George Edwards, who represents Khashad in the lawsuit, spoke with our reporter Randy Wallace about the case. Edwards claims that the apartment complex is responsible for the attack because they failed to regulate loose animals on the property.
As of the report, the apartment complex and its management have not responded to requests for a response regarding the lawsuit. Our website reached out to attorney Nicholas Trimble, who represents the apartment complex and management, but has yet to hear back. In court filings, Parkway/Parkgreen Apartments denies all the allegations lodged in the lawsuit.
The apartment complex and the management company in the Houston dispute involving Khashad McBean are represented by the law firm Ogletree Deakins.
Khashad expressed concern that the attack could have had a more severe outcome if it had been an elderly person or a young child. He shared that he was able to fight off the attacking pitbull, but the experience has left him shaken and struggling with the aftermath of the attack.
This incident serves as a reminder for apartment complexes to prioritize the safety of their residents and implement stricter policies regarding pet ownership and management.
