A fire that broke out in an apartment on Bruno-Dietze-Ring, Neustadt in Saxony, on Monday, August 25 at 15:20 has caused at least 50,000 euros in damage. The exact amount of damage is still being determined, but initial estimates suggest a significant loss.

The fire started in the bedroom of Mechthild Grafe, a 77-year-old woman living on the ground floor. Upon arrival, the fire had already spread to most of the room. The smoke alarm went off in the living room of Mechthild Grafe.

Three people were hospitalized due to the fire. Two residents of the apartment above Mechthild Grafe, aged 85 and 75, were hospitalized with suspected smoke inhalation. An employee of the rescue service also suffered minor injuries from the smoke and was treated medically.

The cause of the fire in the bedroom is still unknown and will be investigated further on Tuesday. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The Neustadt in Saxony fire department was alerted at 3:26 PM. They worked with local fire departments from Krumhermsdorf, Langburkersdorf, Berthelsdorf, and Polenz to extinguish the fire. The affected apartment is now uninhabitable.

The fire department's efforts were successful in containing the fire, preventing it from spreading to other apartments in the building. The residents of the surrounding apartments were evacuated as a precaution.

The community is rallying to support Mechthild Grafe and the other affected residents. Local authorities are providing assistance to those displaced by the fire.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of having functioning smoke alarms and a plan in place for evacuation in case of a fire. As the investigation continues, the community hopes for a swift resolution and recovery for all those affected.
