Anticipation for a Robust Harvest
The ongoing harvest in the wine-growing region of Baden is accompanied by high expectations, as the 2025 vintage is being closely observed due to the favourable conditions during the growing season. According to the Association manager, Holger Klein, the necessary ripening was achieved in the Baden vineyards due to much sunshine in August.
The main harvest of varieties such as Müller-Thurgau and Spätburgunder in Baden started a week earlier due to climatic conditions, and the grapes in the vineyards are reported to be healthy. However, rain is a concern for the current harvest, as weather fluctuations have led to a significant drop in wine production in Baden last year, according to the State Statistical Office.
In Muellheim today, the Baden Winegrowers' Association and Minister of Agriculture Peter Hauk (CDU) will be providing the first overview of the 2025 vintage. Meanwhile, the Württemberg wine region, which ranks fourth in Germany in terms of vineyard area, is running behind in the current harvest, with no specific information available about the 2025 harvest situation or the expected date for the harvest survey by the Württemberg wine association. The Württemberg Winegrowers' Association plans to provide information about the harvest on September 19.
In Germany, the regions of Baden and Württemberg rank third and fourth in wine production, after Rheinhessen and Pfalz. Last year, both regions experienced a significant decrease in wine production due to weather fluctuations, with Baden being particularly affected. Despite this, the 2025 vintage in Baden has been met with optimism, and a first overview of the harvest will be provided today in Muellheim.
