Anticipated Hikes in Camera Prices: Three Companies on the Verge of Pricing Adjustments Next Month

In the ever-evolving landscape of the photography industry, Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, and other major camera brands are planning or have announced second price increases for camera products in the US, effective late August or September 1, 2025, due to increased tariff rates.

Nikon confirmed a second price hike effective September 1, 2025. This follows a previous increase in June 2025, when tariff rates in Japan rose to 15% and Thailand's rates increased to 19%. Nikon's statement emphasized their effort to minimize the impact on customers but acknowledged the necessity of price adjustments.

Fujifilm confirmed a second price increase effective August 30, 2025, just 30 days after a previous increase on August 1. The company cited ongoing global market challenges and tariff-induced costs as reasons for this decision.

Other brands like Sony, Canon, Sigma, and Leica have also implemented or announced US price increases in response to tariffs. However, the details and timing for Canon’s second increase are not as explicit in available sources.

The increased tariffs are part of ongoing changes in US trade policy that have raised costs for imported camera and lens components, particularly from countries like Japan, Thailand, and China (though China’s tariffs have been temporarily paused at 30%). This has led manufacturers to adjust US-list prices multiple times within 2025.

While the brands have not confirmed nor commented on the rumors of a price increase directly, Hillary K.
