Anonymous Maryland Player Claims $50,000 Powerball Prize After Near-Miss

A Maryland lottery player from Nottingham has claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize from the September 28, 2022 drawing. The winner, who chose to stay anonymous under the alias 'Malcolm Reynolds', initially doubted the win and had to verify the numbers online. The lucky ticket was bought at Bel Air Looney's Pub in Harford County. The winning numbers were 3, 1, 13, 24, 39, with a Powerball of 22. The ticket was nearly overlooked—it sat in a pile of unchecked slips until a friend scanned it using the Lottery's app. The winner later found the physical ticket in his car.

Had he picked the number 3 instead of 63, the prize would have been even larger. After confirming the win, the player decided to keep the full $50,000 in his bank account. The ticket was purchased at Bel Air Looney's Pub, a known spot for lottery players in the area. The winner, though surprised, followed through with the claim while maintaining privacy.

The $50,000 prize will remain in the winner's bank account. The ticket's discovery by a friend highlights how easily big wins can go unnoticed. Bel Air Looney's Pub now has another winning ticket linked to its name.
