Annual 5K run event, Ethan's Purpose, happening on September 13 at North Pointe Elementary school in Hebron

Ethan's Purpose, a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness about mental illness and suicide, is set to host its 6th Annual 5K Run/Walk on September 13, 2020, at North Pointe Elementary in Hebron.

Founded in 2018 by Richard and Debbie Zegarra after the loss of their son, Ethan, to suicide, Ethan's Purpose has become a beacon of hope in the community, providing essential resources and support for those struggling with mental health issues.

The event will commence at 8 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m. and an award ceremony for top finishers to follow. The 5K Run/Walk will feature family-friendly activities, including face painting, a selfie booth, a Mindfulness Station, a creative balloon artist, food, drinks, and music. New additions to this year's event include a Fun Run for kids and Remembrance Signs to honour those lost to suicide.

More than 10 community partner resource tables will be present, offering information about services available in the community to support mental health and wellness. Ethan's Purpose has been instrumental in providing suicide prevention training to over 520 teachers and school administrators, reaching more than 5,700 students through Ethan's Challenge, a mental health and suicide awareness program.

In a significant move, Ethan's Purpose donated $100,000 to Boone County Schools to implement the Hope Squad peer-to-peer suicide prevention program in every middle and high school for the next three years. The organisation has also offered counselling to over 335 students.

Ethan's Purpose's mission is to celebrate and honour the lives of those lost to suicide, while supporting survivors. The event aims to remind everyone that they are seen, heard, and matter, fostering a sense of community and empathy in the face of a often isolating struggle.

Join Ethan's Purpose on September 13, 2020, for a day of remembrance, support, and community spirit. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against mental illness and suicide.
