Obituary: Ann Marie Colangelo (1931-2025)

Ann Marie Colangelo, a vibrant and active community member, passed away on August 16, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Peckville, PA, Ann spent most of her life in Belvidere, NJ, where she married Domenick Colangelo in 1952.

Ann was the daughter of Walter and Helen (Bambush) Cheponis. She graduated from Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Jersey City College in 1978. Ann worked as a hospital nurse and later as a school nurse.

Ann was an active member of the community, participating in various groups and activities. She enjoyed Bible study, regular morning walks, spin class, a crochet group, book club, Bible group, her church's outreach committee, a contemplative prayer group, and hosted a Saturday night movie club in her apartment. In retirement, Ann volunteered at a county domestic violence program, a women's shelter, Hershey Medical Center NICU, Elizabethtown Food Bank, Masonic Village, and as a hospice volunteer.

Ann moved to Elizabethtown, PA in 2012 to be closer to family. She was an active member of the Sophia Inclusive Community and greatly valued connecting with others. Ann was always trying to learn new things, a trait that led her to continue her education and engage in various community activities.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Domenick W. Colangelo, her brother, Joseph Cheponis, and her parents. She leaves behind four surviving children: Domenick III (Nadja), Cathy (Jay), Grace (Chuck), and Tony (Chris). Ann has eight grandchildren: Alana (Daniel), Logan (Katie), Jereme (Stephanie), Julee, Emily, Belle, Sophia, and Domenick IV. She also has five great-grandchildren: Nolan, Eli, Mila, Madelyn, and Sage.

A celebration of life will be held on September 21 at 1:30 PM at Sell Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Masonic Village Hospice or Ann's Church at Sophia Inclusive Community. Condolences and memories can be shared at FinkenbinderFamily.com. Ann loved color, so attendees are encouraged to wear their brightest clothing.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home and Crematory. There is no information available about which church community Ann belonged to before moving to Pennsylvania. However, her life was a testament to her faith and commitment to her community. Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
