Anil Kumble explores Kaziranga's wildlife and Assam's cricket passion

Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble recently visited Kaziranga National Park during a two-day tour of Assam. The trip highlighted both his admiration for wildlife and his support for the region's growing cricket culture. Kumble took the opportunity to explore the park's famous landscapes and conservation work firsthand.

Kumble began his visit by touring the Burapahar and Bagori forest ranges. There, he spotted one-horned rhinos, hoolock gibbons, and a variety of bird species. He later met with forest officials to discuss the park's ongoing efforts to protect its wildlife.

The former spinner praised Kaziranga as one of India's most impressive wildlife destinations. He particularly commended the park's success in safeguarding the greater one-horned rhinoceros, a species with around 2,613 individuals in the park as of 2024. Conservation measures, including anti-poaching patrols, habitat restoration, and community relocation, have played a key role in this achievement. Beyond wildlife, Kumble also acknowledged Assam's sporting potential. He noted the state's increasing enthusiasm for cricket and expressed confidence in the Indian team ahead of their upcoming Test match in Guwahati. Before leaving, he encouraged more people to visit Kaziranga and witness its natural beauty for themselves.

Kumble's visit drew attention to Kaziranga's conservation successes and its role in preserving endangered species. His remarks also highlighted Assam's dual strengths in wildlife and sports, reinforcing the region's growing prominence in both areas.
