‘Anatomy of Murder’ creators settle multimillion-dollar lawsuit with Audiochuck
The creators of the hit podcast Anatomy of Murder have settled a lawsuit against their production company, Audiochuck. Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi and Scott Weinberger claimed they were owed millions in unpaid ad revenue from a deal between Audiochuck and SiriusXM. The dispute centred on allegations of contract breaches and financial mismanagement.
The settlement, reached in October 2024, extends their partnership with Audiochuck through the end of 2025, even as the company shifts to a new distribution deal with the NY Post.
Nicolazzi and Weinberger first partnered with Audiochuck in April 2020 under a revenue-sharing agreement. Their true-crime podcast, Anatomy of Murder, launched later that year and quickly topped Apple Podcasts’ charts. The success came just before Audiochuck signed an exclusive ad-sales and distribution deal with SiriusXM in 2021, set to run until 2025.
Problems arose soon after the SiriusXM agreement began. The creators alleged that Audiochuck failed to pay their share of ad revenue, amounting to millions of dollars. They also accused the company of accounting irregularities and deliberately reducing support for the podcast. By early 2024, tensions had escalated into a lawsuit, with Nicolazzi and Weinberger claiming Audiochuck manipulated the SiriusXM deal to their disadvantage.
The dispute settled in October 2024, with both sides agreeing to extend their contract through December 2025. Meanwhile, Audiochuck secured $40 million in funding from The Chernin Group earlier in the year, boosting its valuation to around $250 million. The company also announced a major shift: exiting the SiriusXM deal in favour of a $150 million partnership with Fox Corp.’s Tubi Media Group. This new agreement includes plans for a Crime Junkie NY Post channel.
Audiochuck’s transition continued in November 2024, when it finalised a new deal with RedSeat Entertainment. That agreement took effect on January 1, 2025, marking another change in the company’s distribution strategy.
The settlement allows Nicolazzi and Weinberger to continue working with Audiochuck through the end of 2025. Their contract extension coincides with the company’s move away from SiriusXM and toward new partnerships with Tubi and RedSeat. The creators’ lawsuit has been resolved, but Audiochuck’s business shifts will likely bring further changes to its podcast operations.
