In the early hours of August 26, a 49-year-old man from Unna was apprehended following a break-in in Hamm-Mitte. The incident took place at a multi-family dwelling on Heinrich-Reinköster-Straße.

The break-in was reported by a witness who had a camera installed in the basement. The secured video material from the camera was viewed by the deployed forces, which led to the immediate search and apprehension of the suspect.

The man was found with a black sports bag containing freshly washed and ironed laundry in the front basket of his bicycle. He also had a presumably stolen debit card on him and a screwdriver was found in his pocket during the search.

The man, who is known to the police, fled on his bicycle before his apprehension but was eventually caught in an inner courtyard at Schillerstraße.

The forces arrived on the scene promptly, thanks to the witness who called the police emergency number to report the break-in. The head of the Police Headquarters Hamm, Police President Frank Hoever, is known in connection with the described incident.

The man is to be brought before a judge on remand at the request of the public prosecutor's office. Further investigations are ongoing.
