Amol Rajan leaves BBC Radio 4 to launch creator economy venture
Amol Rajan is stepping down from his role on Radio 4's morning show after four years. The BBC presenter will leave the corporation to launch his own company in the creator economy. A replacement for his morning slot will be announced at a later date.
Rajan joined the BBC a decade ago as its first media editor. Over the years, he became a familiar voice on the Today programme before taking over the Radio 4 morning show in 2020. He also hosted University Challenge from 2023 and ran The Radical with Amol Rajan podcast.
Owenna Griffiths, editor of Today, praised him as an exceptional talent and a valued team member. Despite leaving the morning show, Rajan will continue presenting University Challenge and his podcast while focusing on his new business venture.
Inspired by Only Fools and Horses character Del Boy, Rajan described his move as an entrepreneurial leap. His company will operate within the creator economy, though further details about its projects remain undisclosed.
Rajan's departure marks the end of a long BBC career that included high-profile roles across radio and television. The broadcaster will now search for a new host to take over the morning show. Meanwhile, he will balance his remaining BBC commitments with building his new company.
