America's Fitness Future Through High-Protein Junk Food

In the heart of Brentwood, California, a $12 million mansion once graced by celebrities like Courteney Cox and Tobey Maguire, now stands as the residence of Ron Penna, the visionary behind Legendary Foods.

Ron Penna, the CEO of Legendary Foods, made headlines in 2017 when he sold Quest Nutrition for a staggering $1 billion. However, his entrepreneurial spirit didn't rest there. That same year, he founded Legendary Foods, initially as a flavoured nut company, veering away from protein products before his noncompete agreement was finalized.

Legendary Foods has since made a significant impact on the food industry, specializing in creating protein-infused versions of beloved snacks such as cinnamon rolls, donuts, and chips. The brand's unique offerings have found their way into more than 100,000 gyms and retail locations across the country.

In 2022, a major corporation offered Ron Penna $1 billion for Legendary Foods, but he's not ready to sell just yet. The company is on track to bring in more than $180 million in revenue this year, a testament to its growing popularity.

Interestingly, the rise of Legendary Foods coincides with a shift in consumer behaviour. A study by PWC reports that consumers are eating smaller portions and relying on high-protein, low-calorie choices due to weight loss. This trend, dubbed the GLP-1 crowd, is particularly interested in the quality of their meals and snacks.

Creating products with high protein content is a challenging task for Legendary Foods. The brand must make dough and frosting out of protein without using sugar or carbs, a feat that requires innovative culinary solutions.

Despite the challenges, Legendary Foods has managed to stay profitable since 2024, surpassing $120 million in sales in 2024. The company brought in almost $6 million in revenue by 2021 and $18 million in 2022.

In May 2025, Penna opened a facility in Bell, California exclusively for Legendary Foods. His personal commitment to health and fitness is evident in his 4,000 square foot home gym and his consumption of between 40 to 50% of his calories in protein.

A customer in New York City recently made a choice that encapsulates Legendary Foods' success story. Instead of grabbing a familiar protein bar, they opted for a Legendary cinnamon roll from a 7-Eleven, demonstrating the brand's ability to make healthy choices taste delicious.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, established the commission "Make America Healthy Again" (MAHA) to improve American health by targeting food composition. If MAHA were to consider Legendary Foods, it would find a company that not only caters to the health-conscious consumer but also makes healthy choices enjoyable.
