America's 250th Anniversary Celebrated with Bold New Dime and Coin Redesigns
A new dime design will mark America's 250th anniversary in 2026. The coin, named Emerging Liberty, replaces President Roosevelt's portrait with a Liberty bust on the front. Other coins, including the quarter and nickel, will also receive updated designs for the celebration.
Former President Donald Trump has announced a new organisation, Freedom 250, to lead the nonpartisan anniversary events. The U.S. Mint will additionally release collectible half dollars and pennies as part of the commemorations.
The front of the updated dime carries the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1776 ~ 2026. This side features a Liberty bust, symbolising the colonists' struggle against British rule. The original Roosevelt design had honoured his support for the March of Dimes, a polio research campaign.
On the reverse, an eagle in flight holds arrows in its talons, representing the American Revolution. The inscriptions here read *UNITED STATES OF AMERICA*, *E PLURIBUS UNUM*, *ONE DIME*, and *LIBERTY OVER TYRANNY*. The imagery reinforces the theme of independence and resistance. Beyond the dime, the U.S. Mint will introduce fresh designs for quarters and nickels. While details on the number of variations and their historical themes remain unclear, these coins will join the collectible half dollars and pennies issued for the anniversary. Freedom 250, the new organisation led by Trump, will coordinate nationwide events to mark the milestone.
The Emerging Liberty dime and other redesigned coins will enter circulation in 2026. Collectors and the public will also have access to special half dollars and pennies. The anniversary programme, backed by Freedom 250, aims to highlight key moments from America's founding.
