Amazon Logistics Site Welcomes Josef Oster's Visit

In the heart of Rhineland-Palatinate, Amazon's logistics center in Koblenz covers an area as vast as 15 football fields. This expansive facility, which employs approximately 1,300 permanent employees from the local region, was recently toured by German MP, Josef Oster.

Accompanied by Public Policy Manager Mareike von Frieling and Amazon Business Manager Stefan Jansen, MP Oster took a comprehensive look at the operations within the center. Michaela Cetto, a photographer, documented the tour, capturing images of MP Oster at various stations and walking through the rack aisles of the logistics halls.

The items stored in the Koblenz logistics center are mixed together haphazardly, but an intricate logistics system ensures quick retrieval. Interestingly, only items that fit into a box about the size of a washbasin are stored there; larger items like TVs, bicycles, or washing machines are not stored in the Koblenz center.

During his tour, MP Oster engaged in conversations with various employees, many of whom have been working at the center since its inception and are very satisfied. The employees walk about ten kilometers in a shift, a testament to the pace and efficiency of the operations.

Amazon operates logistics extensively in Germany and has invested in electric and hydrogen trucks used in the region, including routes involving its fulfillment centers in Rhineland-Palatinate. The company also handles the logistics for numerous traders in the region, with over 2,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) exporting their products via Amazon last year.

The first order from Amazon's Koblenz logistics center was placed in September 2012. Amazon plans to invest ten billion euros in German locations by the end of the year, creating 4,000 new jobs and bringing the total number of permanent employees in Germany to 40,000.

MP Oster expressed his interest in the logistics operations at Amazon's center in Koblenz and had an insightful conversation about logistics during the tour. However, no specific public information was provided about which SMEs in Rhineland-Palatinate are logistically served by Amazon.

Photos from the tour provide a glimpse into the well-organised and efficient operations at Amazon's Koblenz logistics center, offering a snapshot of the significant role the facility plays in the region's economy and logistics landscape.
