Aryna Sabalenka Triumphs at US Open, Defending Her Title

Aryna Sabalenka has claimed her second US Open title, defeating Amanda Anisimova in a thrilling final match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Belarusian tennis star, who had previously lost in the finals of the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year, has shown impressive consistency this season, reaching the final of three out of the four biggest tournaments.

The final match was a power-packed duel, with Sabalenka making fewer errors than Anisimova (29 errors compared to 15). The first set was a rollercoaster, with Sabalenka leading 2:0, then trailing 2:3, before securing the first set. In the second set, Sabalenka led 3:1, but allowed Anisimova back into the match. However, Sabalenka held her nerve in the tiebreak and secured the win with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:3).

Anisimova, despite reaching her second Grand Slam final, was unable to claim victory, and will take home half of the prize money. Sabalenka, on the other hand, will receive a prize money of 4.27 million euros (5 million US dollars) for her win.

Sabalenka's victory marks her first success in a major final this year and makes her the first player since Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams in 2016 to reach the final of three out of the four biggest tournaments in a single season. Sabalenka had previously lost to Anisimova in the Wimbledon semifinals, but was able to turn the tables in the US Open final.

The nearly 24,000 spectators at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on the rainy final afternoon watched a close and intense match, with the trophy ceremony taking place after 1 hour and 34 minutes of play. Sabalenka was overjoyed after the victory and expressed gratitude for the hard lessons she had to learn.

Anisimova's dream of a first Grand Slam title remains unfulfilled, following her 0:6, 0:6 debacle at Wimbledon eight weeks ago. Sabalenka, on the other hand, has successfully defended her US Open title, the first player to do so since Serena Williams between 2012 and 2014.

The last player who, like Sabalenka, reached three finals of the four biggest tournaments in a year, alongside Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams in 2016, is Aryna Sabalenka herself in 2025. Sabalenka's victory at the US Open marks her fourth Grand Slam title, a significant milestone in her career.
