New Executive Director Appointments at Bafin

The Financial Supervisory Authority Bafin has announced some changes in its executive leadership. Thorsten Poetzsch has been appointed as the Executive Director for Securities Supervision and Asset Management, replacing Elisabeth Roegele who stepped down in the spring. Poetzsch has been serving in this role on an interim basis since then.

Before joining Bafin, Poetzsch held leadership positions at the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Chancellery, and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority. He has been with Bafin since 2018, initially serving as Executive Director for Resolution, a role that includes the departments of Anti-Money Laundering and Financial System Integrity. Poetzsch's tenure as Executive Director for Resolution began in 2018 and has been permanent since.

A new member, Birgit Rodolphe, has joined the Bafin board. Rodolphe will take over the role of Executive Director for Resolution at Bafin. Prior to joining Bafin, Rodolphe served as Divisional Director Corporate Clients Non-Financial Risk at Commerzbank. Rodolphe is the Executive Director responsible for anti-money laundering at BaFin, but specific information on when she started at BaFin is not provided in the available sources. She will assume her role at Bafin on November 1st.

Rodolphe's appointment marks a change in the Bafin board, as Poetzsch moves from the Resolution department to the Securities Supervision and Asset Management department. Poetzsch has been acting in the role of Executive Director for Securities Supervision and Asset Management since Roegele stepped down in the spring.

These changes aim to strengthen Bafin's efforts in ensuring the stability and integrity of the financial system, as well as in the fight against money laundering. The appointments of Poetzsch and Rodolphe bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their respective roles, ensuring continued effective supervision and regulation at Bafin.
