Alien: Romulus sequel no longer directed by Fede Alvarez

The search is on for a new director for the highly anticipated Alien: Romulus sequel, as Fede Alvarez has stepped down from his role. The news comes after a series of creative disagreements and scheduling conflicts.

Alvarez, who co-wrote the script for the sequel with Rodo Sagueyez, was set to direct the film, with Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson set to reprise their roles as Rain and Andy. However, Ridley Scott, who will produce the sequel alongside Alvarez, expressed disagreement with the director about the character David, played by Michael Fassbender, in the sequel.

Scott, who has multiple films on his slate, including The Dog Stars, a Battle of Britain film, Gladiator III, and a Bee Gees biopic, has yet to confirm when or where he would fit in another Alien project. This scheduling conflict may have played a role in Alvarez's decision to step down.

Despite the creative disagreement and scheduling issues, Alvarez has expressed a desire for a director who will take the story "for the jugular." He did not specify the reason for stepping back from directing the sequel.

Rumours of Alvarez's firing from the project started with a statement by Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast. However, no official confirmation has been made about Alvarez being fired from the Alien: Romulus sequel.

The Alien: Romulus sequel was a hit for 20th Century Studios in 2021, and the producers are eager to find a new director who can continue the story in a way that will satisfy fans. Filming for the sequel was scheduled to begin in October 2021, but has been put on hold while a new director is found.

In a recent interview, Scott mentioned the possibility of returning to the Alien franchise following 2017's Alien: Covenant. He also mentioned that he might want to bring back Fassbender's character in future Alien projects if he returns to the franchise.

Meanwhile, Alien: Earth, a TV series set in the same universe, has been more critically acclaimed than Alien: Romulus, and has been well received by fans. The series offers a new perspective on the Alien universe and provides a fresh take on the franchise.

As the search for a new director continues, fans eagerly await updates on the Alien: Romulus sequel. With the success of the franchise and the talent involved, the sequel is sure to be an exciting addition to the Alien universe.
