This is not the first time Ghrieb has held a senior position; he has served as board chairman at the Algerian Qatari Steel company and has held various other prominent roles.
Nadir Larbaoui, a former lawyer, held the post since November 2023. He has a background in diplomacy, representing Algeria as ambassador to several countries and to the United Nations.
The appointment of Sifi Ghrieb as interim prime minister follows the removal of Nadir Larbaoui. It marks the second change in Algeria's government in recent months, adding to the political uncertainty in the country.
