Alexandria organizes a second community gathering for land use discussion on Duke Street

The City of Alexandria has announced a community meeting on the Duke Street Land Use Plan, scheduled for September 25. This meeting will take place at Bishop Ireton High School cafeteria, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees can look forward to a presentation and question-and-answer session, followed by facilitated discussions about the draft guiding principles based on community feedback for the Duke Street corridor. The presentation portion will also be available online via Zoom for those who cannot attend in person.

Food, childcare, and language interpretation in Spanish and Amharic will be available at the meeting. For those driving, parking should be arranged in the Lower Lot, and the meeting location is accessible via the free DASH Bus Route 30, with entrance through Door 15 off the Lower Lot.

Community members are encouraged to participate in facilitated discussions about the proposed principles. If you require interpretation in other languages, kindly make your request by September 18 to Christian Brandt, Urban Planner, at 703-746-3859 or through WhatsApp.

The City of Alexandria has launched the Duke Street Land Use Plan Engagement Hub, an interactive webpage for digital engagement opportunities. This hub includes the "Live, Work, Play" interactive map, community polls, and interactive mapping activities, among other features. Additional digital engagement opportunities will be added to the Engagement Hub as the planning process progresses.

Following the Sept. 25 meeting, opportunities to provide feedback on the draft guiding principles will be available on the hub. A recording of the meeting will be posted on the project webpage following the event.

A schedule of future community meetings and pop-up events will be posted following the Sept. 25 meeting. Information about upcoming meetings and engagement opportunities will be communicated through the city's eNews, WhatsApp, and community group networks.

For more details, contact Christian Brandt at 703-746-3859 or through WhatsApp. The Engagement Hub can be accessed at the following link: [project website]
