Alert Day in Germany: Sirens to Blare on September 11, 2025, at 11 A.M.
The nationwide warning day is fast approaching, and it's important for citizens to understand the warning system in their respective cities. Here's a breakdown of how the warning system works in different cities across the district.
In some cities like Eberdingen, sirens have been installed for local fire alarming. However, it's important to note that these sirens are not connected to the general disaster alarm network. Instead, they can only be used for specific local emergencies.
Not all cities in the district have sirens. For instance, Freiberg am Neckar is currently in the process of installing sirens, and they are expected to be operational by the nationwide warning day.
For cities and municipalities without sirens or not connected to the general disaster alarm network, the population will be warned by various means. These include loudspeaker vehicles, the NINA warning app, and Cell Broadcast. The NINA warning app is a federal government app used for emergency warnings.
Cell Broadcast is a service that can send warning messages to all mobile devices in a specific section of the mobile network, known as a cell. However, for Cell Broadcast to work, mobile devices must be turned on and not in flight mode. It's worth noting that no all-clear messages are sent via Cell Broadcast.
The warning signal "one minute wail" means "There is an immediate danger in the area or it is expected shortly. Use all possible information media for further instructions." Conversely, the all-clear signal "one minute steady tone" at 11:45 a.m. means "There is no longer an acute danger."
On the nationwide warning day, the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance will trigger all available warning means nationwide, including more than 120 sirens on their platform. This day aims to test the technical warning infrastructure, familiarize citizens and the media with the topic of warning, and convey knowledge about warning paths and procedures.
