Alabama Trucker Wins $120,000 Lottery Jackpot After Quick Pick Bet

Jonathan Hodge, a trucker from Luverne, Alabama, has won a $120,000 Cash 5 jackpot in the North Carolina Education Lottery. He purchased his ticket online for the May 8 drawing and matched all five numbers to secure the prize. Hodge opted for the Quick Pick method when buying his ticket. The odds of winning the Cash 5 jackpot stand at 1 in 962,598, making his victory a rare occurrence.

After claiming his prize at lottery headquarters, Hodge received $86,109 following tax deductions. He has stated plans to use the winnings for a down payment on a house. The North Carolina Education Lottery, launched in 2006, directs 100% of its net proceeds to education in the state. To date, over $10 billion has been allocated to educational programmes. The State Lottery Act mandates how funds are distributed: 51% goes to prizes, 38% to education, 7% to retailers, and 4% to operational costs.

Hodge's win adds to the lottery's ongoing contributions to North Carolina's education system. His prize money, after taxes, will help him secure a home while the remaining funds continue supporting schools across the state.
