Airline Service Sky Express bridges Hamburg and Athens
Hamburg Airport, a bustling hub for around 55 airlines, is gearing up for an exciting summer in 2025. Gesa Zaremba, the Head of Airline & Traffic Development, has announced a series of changes that promise to make travelling more convenient for passengers.
The summer schedule will offer more frequent flights to Greece, Albania, and Armenia, expanding the total number of destinations to approximately 120 in around 40 countries. This expansion is a testament to Hamburg Airport's commitment to providing diverse travel options for its passengers.
One of the new additions to Hamburg Airport is Sky Express, a member of the International Air Transport Association. Sky Express will connect Hamburg to Athens nonstop starting from October 24, 2025. The flight will be served three times a week: on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The aircraft type used by Sky Express on the Hamburg-Athens route will be an Airbus A320 neo, ensuring a comfortable journey for passengers. The flight duration is approximately three hours.
The news of the expansion and the addition of Sky Express comes on the heels of Hamburg Airport recording its highest ever passenger numbers in 2024. This achievement, coupled with the airport's recent win of the "Best Airport Award 2025", underscores its status as an economic engine of the metropolitan region.
Sky Express, based in Greece, operates the largest domestic network in Greece with 33 destinations from Athens. This partnership is expected to benefit both Hamburg and Greece economically, fostering greater connectivity and trade between the two regions.
As Hamburg Airport continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to providing an exceptional travel experience for its passengers. With its expanded schedule and new routes, Hamburg Airport is set to make travel more accessible and convenient for travellers in the coming years.
