Aid's compatibility with the domestic economy remains undecided by the Commission.
The city of Essen invites all interested citizens to participate in a public discussion regarding the expansion plans for a Lidl branch located at Katernberger Straße 76-78. The discussion will take place on September 18th at 7 pm at the Community Center Mitte, Evangelical Church, Katernberger Markt 4.
The expansion aims to make the food discount market future-proof and meet modern food market requirements. The project covers an area of approximately 0.75 hectares, including the future plot areas of the project initiators and a strip for widening the sidewalk on Katernberger Straße.
The planning includes an addition to the existing market building, a redesign and expansion of the parking facilities, and extensive greening measures. The roof of the addition will be equipped with a photovoltaic system.
The Department of Urban Planning and Building Regulations will conduct a public participation process for the project-specific development plan "Katernberger Straße 76-78 (Lidl Branch)" from September 8th to September 19th, 2025. Comprehensive information about the planning can be found on the city portal's website starting from the beginning of the exhibition at www.our website/Stadtplanung.
For those unable to attend the public discussion, explanatory sessions will be held on September 11th (3 pm - 6 pm) and September 16th (9 am - 12 pm) at Lindenallee 10, Germany House, 5th Floor, Room 508. The plan boards will also be available for viewing at the Citizen Center Kon-Takt on specified days and times, and will be displayed there during the same period.
Statements on the planning can be submitted online through the city portal's website, and the city portal's Press and Communications Office can be reached at +49 201 88-0 (ServiceCenter Essen) or via email at presse@our website.
The city encourages all citizens to take part in this important planning process, ensuring that the expansion meets the needs and expectations of the community.
