After weather conditions clear, the Gaza Aid Fleet resumes its journey - Aid ship convoy sets sail again following weather improvement in the Mediterranean waters, heading towards Gaza.

The Gaza Aid Fleet, led by the independent group Global Sumud Flotilla, set sail once again from Barcelona on Monday evening, aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and open a humanitarian corridor.

The fleet, consisting of twenty boats flying Palestinian flags, was initially scheduled to embark on Sunday afternoon but had to return to Barcelona due to uncertain weather conditions. The journey is part of a larger action against Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The blockade, which has been in place for over a decade, has been a subject of controversy and accusations. The United Nations declared a famine in the Gaza Strip on August 22, accusing Israel of "systematically hindering" the delivery of aid. The Israeli government, however, has rejected these accusations.

The Gaza Strip, home to the Hamas and Palestinian groups affiliated with it, has been the epicentre of a prolonged conflict. The war, which was triggered by these groups on October 7, 2023, with large-scale attacks on Israel, has resulted in a significant humanitarian crisis. According to Hamas authorities (information not independently verified but considered plausible by UN representatives), over 63,300 people have been killed, most of them civilians.

Notable figures supporting the Gaza Aid Fleet include the 22-year-old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg. Thunberg had previously participated in an aid flotilla to the Gaza Strip in June, which was stopped by the Israeli navy.

The term "Sumud" is the Arabic word for "steadfastness," a fitting name for the organization leading the aid flotilla. The group's aim is to bring much-needed humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and to call for the opening of a humanitarian corridor.

As the Gaza Aid Fleet makes its way towards the Gaza Strip, the world watches with hope, praying for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis and for the delivery of much-needed aid to the people of Gaza.
