AI Competition at AI Center in Italy: Gov2Gov Challenge 3
The Italian Social Security and Welfare Administration (INPS) has taken a significant step forward in its digital transformation journey by establishing the AI Competence Center. This dedicated unit, overseen by the INPS Central Department of Information Technology and Innovation, aims to foster the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for citizens.
Antonino Cipriani, Project Manager at INPS, and Massimiliano D'Angelo, Information Technology Director at INPS, are among the team coordinators leading this innovative venture. Emanuele Colini, Agile Enablement Manager at INPS, also plays a crucial role in the team. Vincenzo Di Nicola, Innovation Manager at INPS, is in charge of AI projects within the Competence Center.
The AI Competence Center is designed to serve as a catalyst, linking various skills and projects, fostering knowledge sharing, and acting as a model for innovation within the public administration. Its primary goals include strengthening trust, both internally and from citizens, providing users with an optimised experience, and improving service quality, reducing waiting times, and personalising services for citizens.
One of the key initiatives of the AI Competence Center is the automatic classification and dispatching of Certified Electronic Mail, as well as the development of advanced virtual agents. These projects are aimed at streamlining and enhancing the efficiency of INPS's operations.
The AI Competence Center is also part of the Gov2Gov Innovation Incubator program, an initiative open to government solution providers. The deadline for applications has been extended to 20 June 2024. This program offers opportunities to learn about various challenges, such as promoting digital participation, boosting public participation in data spaces, and improving accessibility to public services for vulnerable groups.
The Gov2Gov Innovation Incubator invites participants to support two interrelated challenges. By joining the program, solution providers can contribute to the advancement of AI-based solutions within INPS and the wider public administration.
It's important to note that the AI Competence Center is funded by the European Union. This funding underscores the significance of AI in societal innovation and technological evolution in the public administration, as emphasised by the Italian Government's Agency for Digital Transformation.
As the AI Competence Center continues to grow and evolve, it is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of public services in Italy. Citizens can look forward to experiencing the benefits of AI-driven improvements in service quality, efficiency, and personalisation.
