The Interior Department is currently undergoing a significant period of change, with several key personnel departing from their roles and a reorganization process underway.

Elon Musk's government efficiency team members, Stephanie Holmes and Katrine Trampe, have announced their departures from the Interior Department. Holmes was acting as the Interior's chief human capital officer, while Trampe served as an advisor to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. Tyler Hassen, another member of the Department of Government Efficiency, is also leaving on August 1. Hassen was tasked with leading a reorganization of the department, consolidating IT, communications, finance, human resources, and contracting into the central department.

The exits of these personnel, including Hassen, have been met with mixed reactions from Interior employees. Some are celebrating the departures, while others express apprehension about the future. This comes after the departure of Tyler Hassen from the General Services Administration (GSA), where he was tasked with leading a reorganization effort.

The resignations of Holmes, Trampe, and Hassen demonstrate ongoing leadership shakeup at the GSA. Michael Rigas, a deputy secretary at the State Department, has entered the GSA as the acting head. Rigas' arrival follows the replacement of Stephen Ehikian as the acting head at the GSA. Ehikian was a stronghold for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), but his replacement came after Musk associate Steve Davis tried to install Ehikian as a new leader of DOGE.

During their tenure, Holmes and Trampe pushed for and got access to a personnel and payroll system run out of Interior. This consolidation of IT at Interior is ongoing, with the organizational chart for the post-consolidation tech shop still being finalized. It is important to note that several high-ranking tech, cybersecurity, and legal leaders at the department were placed on administrative leave and under investigation at the time.

The New York Times reported on the departure of Tyler Hassen from the GSA. The department spokesperson confirmed the departures and praised their contributions to the Department. However, there is no information in the search results about any persons who have been removed as heads of the Department for Government Efficiency at the Ministry of the Interior or about their future assignments.

The departures of several DOGE affiliates at Interior come after an ongoing schism between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. The exact reasons for these departures are not clear, but the ongoing reorganization and leadership changes at both the Interior Department and the GSA suggest that significant changes are afoot.
