AfD deemed unskilled on multiple matters by Palmer prior to the debate

In the heart of Tübingen, a contentious debate is scheduled for Friday between the city's independent mayor, Boris Palmer, and Markus Frohnmaier, the state chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

The debate comes following the cancellation of an AfD demonstration in mid-July, which was initially planned in the city center. Local business owners had approached Palmer, expressing concerns that the demonstration could lead to losses in turnover. In response, the AfD offered to cancel the demo if Palmer agreed to a public debate with AfD representatives.

The AfD's program, according to Palmer, displays incompetence on many issues. He believes that ignoring the party has failed and that his strategy of addressing and discussing their topics is more effective.

The debate is not without controversy, as critics in Tübingen accuse Palmer of unnecessarily giving the AfD a platform. However, Palmer sees the debate as having the same goal as the demonstrators: to deny right-wing extremists and enemies of the constitution a platform.

As many as 1500 people have registered with the city administration for the demonstration, but the number is expected to be much higher. Several demonstration calls have been made for the evening of the debate.

Palmer intends to expose the argumentative weaknesses of the AfD during the debate. He also criticises the party for making demands that, according to him, harm their own voters.

The result of the Tübingen elections does not suggest that Palmer's strategy of addressing and discussing the AfD's topics is harmful. In fact, it seems to be a strategy that resonates with the city's voters.

The other AfD representative with whom Boris Palmer will discuss at the planned debate event in Tübingen on Friday is Markus Frohnmaier. Palmer has stated that he is looking forward to the debate, seeing it as an opportunity to engage in open and honest discussion about the issues that matter to the people of Tübingen.
