Adaptation Week for Climate Change

The city of Aschaffenburg is gearing up for the fourth edition of the Week of Climate Adaptation (WdKA), taking place from September 15th to 19th. As a partner of the WdKA, the city is hosting a series of events aimed at promoting climate adaptation and sustainability.

One of the highlights of the week is the Wandering Trees project in Damm, a unique initiative that brings shade, greenery, and seating areas to the streets. These wooden seating modules, complete with a tree in the middle and mobile plant boxes, are currently located in Damm. The project changes its location every six weeks, making it a dynamic and ever-evolving addition to the city's landscape.

The city's neighborhood management secures funding within the framework of urban development promotion for the Wandering Trees project. The project is also supported by volunteers who are active in the neighborhood council as a working group on climate adaptation.

For those interested in learning more about greening their own homes, there is a lecture titled "Building Greenery - Improving the Climate at Your Own Home. Plus: Information on the Aschaffenburg Funding Program." This hybrid event, taking place in person at the VHS and streamed simultaneously, features speakers Rebecca Landwehr from Bundesverband GebäudeGrün e. V. (BuGG) and Antonia Pfeiffer, Climate Adaptation Manager of the City of Aschaffenburg.

The lecture is just one of several events taking place during the Week of Climate Adaptation. On Tuesday, September 16th, there is a digital lecture titled "Putting Climate and Health in Focus!" led by Daniel Nuding from Team Gesundheit GmbH. Registration for this event is required by September 16th at https://stadtab_klima.ticketmachine.de/de.

On Wednesday, September 17th, there is a climate tour titled "From the 'Hot Stone' to the Drinking Fountain" at 5 - 6:30 pm. The meeting point for this tour is the drinking fountain in front of the city library, Schlossplatz 2, 63739 Aschaffenburg. Registration for the tour is required by September 17th at https://stadtab_klima.ticketmachine.de/de.

The Tree Walk in Damm, a free, guided tour with no registration required, takes place on Thursday, September 18, from 7 - 8:30 PM. The meeting point for the tour is Seestraße 2, 63741 Aschaffenburg.

On Thursday, September 18th, there is another event but no further details are provided.

The Week of Climate Adaptation is organized by the Center for Climate Adaptation and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).
