Activist Manoj Jarange, Champion of Maratha Quota, Arrives in Mumbai in Preparation for Azad Maidan Demonstration

Maratha quota agitation leader Manoj Jarange and his followers have arrived in Mumbai, marking the commencement of a significant protest. Jarange, who belongs to the Maratha Morcha political organization, began his march from Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district.

As the protest takes place amidst security measures to ensure law and order, over 1,500 police personnel have been deployed at the protest site, Azad Maidan. The peaceful demonstration is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 29.

Thousands of Jarange's supporters have already arrived in Mumbai to join the demonstration. The number of protesters has been capped at 5,000, and only five vehicles are allowed for entry. Jalna police have permitted Jarange's march with 40 conditions, including not blocking traffic or raising objectionable slogans.

Earlier, an aide of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Jarange in Jalna to urge him to postpone his protest in Mumbai in light of the Ganpati festival. However, Jarange has assured that the protest will remain peaceful and not disrupt Ganesh festival celebrations.

Accompanied by hundreds of vehicles during his march, Jarange was greeted by supporters at Vashi as he entered the city. The protest site has been reinforced with security, and authorities have put restrictions in place for the protest.

Jarange has called for a fresh hunger strike demanding a 10% quota for Marathas under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. He has also sought recognition of all Marathas as Kunbis-an agrarian caste listed under OBC, which would make them eligible for reservation in government jobs and education.

Security has been strengthened at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus due to supporters arriving from across Maharashtra. The Maratha community, one of the largest in the state, has been demanding reservations for several years, and this protest is a continuation of their long-standing struggle.

The people of Mumbai are advised to maintain normalcy and avoid any unnecessary disturbances during the protest. The authorities are committed to ensuring a peaceful and orderly demonstration, as requested by Jarange himself.
