Accused Las Vegas double murderer awaits extradition after passing by on bike
A bicyclist suspected of "shooting" two women outside a Las Vegas slot machine shop is now behind bars in California.
Jason Robert Manuel, 43, was charged earlier this week for a driving incident that occurred on March 5 at a liquor store/slot parlor near the intersection of East Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Avenue. He was arrested on three counts in connection with the shooting.
Both victims died at the scene. One of them was named Summer Lange and the other was named Rona M. Ah-Foon, Las Vegas television station KTNV reported. Both are 29 years old.
Manuel is also said to have shot a man named "Sam" at the same location. Sam suffered a wrist injury and was treated at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. He was apparently married to one of the deceased women.
jealoushusband
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), before the shooting, Sam and Manuel were involved in a "feud" over jealousy.
Manuel claimed that his wife had sex with Sam. Manuel's wife appeared to have previously asked Sam for help "distributing methamphetamine," police said.
The victim told police that Manuel allegedly fired several shots at Sam during an incident in Las Vegas before the March 5 shooting, "nearly" injuring him.
Witnesses identify suspect
LVMPD officers interviewed staff at a liquor store/convenience store the Las Vegas Review-Journal identified as "Change" regarding the March 5 shooting. Several witnesses said it was Manuel, police said. They added that he was a frequent visitor to the store, police said.
Officers also reviewed surveillance video from a neighboring business. They said a man resembling Manuel was seen riding a bicycle and shooting at the victim.
Manuel fled on his bicycle after the March 5 shooting, police said. Soon after, Manuel allegedly stole his wife's Audi SUV and drove to California, police said.
He is now charged with two counts of open homicide with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder, Las Vegas television station KLAS reported.
Manuel was being held at the Riverside County Jail in California this weekend. He was arrested on Monday.
Manuel is scheduled to appear in a California court soon. He could agree to return to Nevada to face trial, or he could have an extradition hearing overseen by a California judge. Depending on the outcome of the hearing, a judge could order him sent back to Las Vegas to face trial.
LVMPD officials announced that Manuel has prior convictions in Nevada and California. In 2004, he was arrested and convicted of aggravated assault, murder and robbery, KTNV reported.
