Accident on the streets of New York City leaves former mayor Rudy Giuliani hospitalized
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and one-time "America's mayor" following his leadership in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, is currently recuperating after a car crash in New Hampshire. The incident occurred when Giuliani's rental vehicle was struck from behind while driving on a highway near Manchester.
Fortunately, the car crash was not a targeted attack, and Giuliani is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a few days. He sustained injuries including a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
In an unexpected turn of events, Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of a domestic violence incident. He contacted the police on her behalf.
Giuliani's professional life has been marked by his association with Donald Trump. He emerged as Trump's personal lawyer in 2018 and later supported his allegations of fraud in the 2020 election. However, dozens of lawsuits claiming fraud were lost by Trump's team, and no signs of significant wrongdoing or error were found in the 2020 election results.
In a separate development, two Georgia election workers successfully sued Giuliani for defamation and were awarded $148m (£118m) in damages. In a settlement, Giuliani and the two women reached an agreement that allowed him to keep his homes and various high-value belongings, while the women received unspecified compensation and a promise from Giuliani to stop speaking ill of them.
It's worth mentioning that Giuliani was disbarred in 2021 due to his handling of Trump's election fraud claims. He was also found in contempt of court for not having a car, credit card, or cash, and faced a trial this winter over the ownership of some of his assets.
Giuliani was once in the running to be the Republican presidential candidate in the 2008 election but missed out and eventually endorsed John McCain.
Andrew Giuliani, Rudy's son, took to social media to thank people for their prayers and well-wishes for his father's speedy recovery.
