Abuja Police Investigating Possible Suicide of 30-Year-Old Male Resident

In a tragic turn of events, a 30-year-old man named Ik Ojo was found hanging in his residence at Kagini, Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on August 5, 2025. The FCT Police Command received a distress call reporting the suspected suicide, and Ik Ojo was evacuated to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ik Ojo's death. No further details have been communicated yet as the investigation progresses. The body of Ik Ojo has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

In a separate development, the Department of State Service (DSS) has written a letter to Twitter demanding the immediate removal of a tweet posted by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, within 24 hours. The letter, sent on August 25, 2025, cites violations of Nigerian laws including the Criminal Code Act and the Cyber Crimes Act 2025.

The tweet in question, posted on Sowore's verified X handle on Twitter, allegedly disparages President Tinubu. The tweet is about President Tinubu's claim of the absence of corruption in his regime during a trip to Brazil. The DSS argues that this tweet constitutes misleading information, hate speech, incitement to violence, and a threat to national security.

The letter from the DSS threatens legal action against X Corp., the company that owns Twitter, if the tweet is not removed. The Director General of State Services, B. Bamigboye, has sent a letter to Elon Musk, the Chairman and CEO of X Corp., demanding the same.

The DSS accuses Sowore of intentionally harming the President's reputation and Nigeria's image, potentially inciting unrest among the President's supporters. This is not the first time Sowore has been charged by the Nigerian DSS; he was charged on August 25, 2025, as well.

As the investigation into Ik Ojo's death continues, the nation remains divided over the DSS's actions against Sowore's tweet. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges facing Nigeria today.
