Abu Obeida reportedly met his demise in Gaza, according to a Palestinian source speaking to Al Arabiya.
In a controversial turn of events, reports suggest that the Israeli military has targeted and killed Abu Obaida, the spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in an airstrike on Sunday morning.
The attack, which took place in an apartment in Gaza City, northern Gaza Strip, was conducted using an air force aircraft. According to reports, everyone inside the targeted apartment was killed. The Israeli military and Hebrew media have claimed responsibility for the targeted killing of Abu Obaida.
However, the IDF and Shin Bet have remained tight-lipped about the incident, neither confirming nor denying the death of Abu Obaida. They have also not commented on any responsibility for the reported killing.
The IDF and Shin Bet did state that numerous steps were taken to minimise the possibility of harming civilians during the attack, using precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.
Members of Abu Obeida's family and Al-Qassam Brigades leaders have reportedly confirmed his death after examining the body. Hamas, however, has yet to comment on Israel's allegations.
The target was reportedly one of the key members of the Al-Qassam Brigades, with the Israeli military and intelligence services stating that they were targeting a key element of the Hamas "terrorist organization" in the Rimal neighborhood, Gaza City, northern Gaza Strip.
The army statement claimed that terrorist organisations in the Gaza Strip continue to systematically violate international law by using civilian institutions and the civilian population as human shields. The IDF and Shin Bet did not comment on Hamas' allegations regarding the attack.
It is important to note that the Israeli spokesperson of the Al-Qassam Brigades who was reportedly killed according to Palestinian sources in Gaza City on September 30, 2009, is not mentioned in the search results. However, Abu Obaida, a Hamas spokesperson of the Al-Qassam Brigades, was reported killed on August 30, 2025, in Gaza City, and his death was confirmed by the Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. There is no information indicating that he survived.
As the situation continues to unfold, both sides remain silent, with tensions running high in the region. The international community is closely monitoring the developments, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
