Abbey Road Studios, in collaboration with corto.alto, express excitement about being part of the Polestar project, describing it as incredibly cool.
In an exciting collaboration, multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall is reworking two of his hit songs using the unique sonic characteristics of Abbey Road Studios Mode, the new in-car listening experience available exclusively on Bowers & Wilkins speakers in the Polestar 3.
This innovative technology transforms the Polestar 3's cabin into a mobile sound studio, with 25 strategically placed Bowers & Wilkins speakers. Shortall, a jazz musician nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of the 'Act Of The Year' category at the Jazz FM Awards, finds the experience of recording in Studio Two, with its rich history and skilled staff, inspiring.
The first song Shortall is reworking is "Energised", an uptempo, festival-ready number with a bold, playful rhythm. For this track, he has chosen the preset 'Energised'. In contrast, the second song he is reworking is "Latency", a slower, more introspective piece that allows for subtleties in dynamic range and spatial feel.
Shortall, who is proficient in playing trombone, trumpet, guitar, and piano, values the car test in determining the final sound of his music. He joins a long line of artists who have used cars as a valuable tool in the recording process. Mirek, a staff member at Abbey Road Studios, shares that mixes are still checked in cars outside Studio Two.
The Abbey Road Studios Mode offers four distinct presets: Energised, Open, Intimate, and Expansive. Shortall has praised the technology, comparing Abbey Road Studios to a Mecca of British music. Jon Hopkins, a Grammy-nominated musician, has also praised the Abbey Road Studios Mode in Polestar 3, with Polestar recently launching a new music update featuring new music created by Hopkins using the technology.
This new chapter in Abbey Road Studios' history focuses on jazz, improvisation, and creativity. Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road have a longstanding history, with Bowers & Wilkins loudspeakers being used in the recording process at Abbey Road for the past 45 years. With the launch of the Polestar 3, Abbey Road Studios Mode has added a new dimension to this partnership, offering a unique in-car listening experience that transforms the car into a mobile sound studio.
