Abandoned Luggage at Dortmund Station Leads to Cost of 712 Euros by BPOL NRW
In a recent incident, a 23-year-old German man from Werne was arrested at Dortmund Central Station. The man, who is homeless, had multiple outstanding arrest warrants against him.
The events unfolded on September 3rd, when a traveler reported a forgotten backpack at the station. The Federal Police took possession of the backpack and later discovered that it belonged to the 23-year-old.
Upon checking the man's details, the Federal Police found that there were two active arrest warrants issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Dortmund for the 23-year-old. The Federal Police Inspectorate Dortmund and the Federal Police Directorate Saint Augustin were involved in the execution of the arrest warrants.
The man was taken into custody at the station. He was handcuffed when he arrived to claim his backpack around 8 a.m. The Federal Police also secured his backpack.
In January 2024, the Dortmund Local Court sentenced the 23-year-old to a fine of 45 daily units of €10 each, or alternatively 40 days in prison. This sentence was in addition to another fine of 30 daily units of €10 each, or alternatively seven days in prison, which the court had imposed on him in February of the same year. The fines included additional costs.
The 23-year-old had previously been sentenced by the Dortmund Local Court as well.
