A tragic incident in Zaragoza: A tragedy as a 20-year-old woman plunges to her demise in a 35-meter-deep well.

In the heart of Grisel, a small town in the Saragossa province of Zaragoza, lies the Aines Fountain, a tourist attraction that was converted in 1990. However, this tranquil spot was the scene of a tragic incident in the late 1900s.

The well, nestled within the Comarca of Tarazona and the Moncayo, has a depth of 35 meters and a mouth measuring 22 meters. Its structure, formed by the collapse of limestone and gypsum strata due to underground waters, makes it a unique geological feature. Unfortunately, it was the site of a fatal accident, as a young woman, approximately 20 years old, lost her life after falling into the well.

Access to the well is a precarious affair, with visitors descending via a rope, either through the main entrance or a lateral opening excavated in the rock. The well's structure and access methods were already noted during the rescue operation that ensued.

The rescue operation involved the use of vertical rescue techniques and equipment, with firefighters from the Tarazona fire station and a coordinator taking the lead. The well was equipped with safety measures and a viewpoint, providing a vantage point for those involved in the rescue effort.

Despite the dense vegetation surrounding the well, the young woman's body was eventually extracted. The incident was a sombre reminder of the dangers that can lurk even in the most picturesque of locations.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Zaragoza Provincial Council provided information about the rescue operation, but no new facts about the incident were disclosed. The Aines well, once a popular tourist spot, now stands as a poignant memorial to the young woman who lost her life there.

Today, the Aines well continues to attract visitors, a testament to its enduring allure. Yet, the memory of the tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and caution, especially when exploring unfamiliar territories.
