A deadly shooting at a Mississippi casino results in federal charges being filed.
This week, six individuals were charged in an Alabama federal court for a series of incidents at a casino and two nightclubs, as well as other offenses.
One of these incidents resulted in the death of Nicholaus "Nick" Craig, 36, who was shot at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in D'Iberville, Mississippi in September 2022.
Craig was en route to Mobile, Alabama to celebrate his birthday when he stopped at the casino with his girlfriend. They had dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino before Craig left the hotel. He allegedly had back pain from a recent surgery and was driving his rental car, a dark blue Nissan Altima, when he was shot.
The burnt remains of Craig's rental car were found later at an apartment complex in Prichard, Alabama, where it had been set on fire.
Craig was a resident of Mobile and had recently moved to California.
Apart from the Mississippi casino shooting, two other shootings led to federal indictments. The Bank Nightclub incident on September 18, 2022 took the life of Derek Shavers. He was believed to be a bystander and was reportedly shot by Reginald Dennis Alan Fluker.
The six individuals indicted are Fluker, John Fitzgerald McCarroll, Darrius Dwayne Rowser, Karmelo Cortez Morris Derks, Jimaurice Pierce, and Lyteria Isheeia Hollis.
On Sunday, the indictments were made in Mobile federal court and were made public on Tuesday.
McCarroll was accused of being the ringleader, according to AL.com, an Alabama-based news website. McCarroll, Fluker, Rowser, Pierce, and Hollis were all indicted for conspiring to commit murder-for-hire. McCarroll and Fluker also face murder-for-hire charges in a different case.
Rowser and Derks were additionally charged with conspiracy to commit carjacking and transporting a stolen vehicle across state lines.
McCarroll and Hollis, McCarroll's purported girlfriend, were charged with obstruction and tampering with evidence.
In addition, Pierce was charged with possessing an unregistered firearm and illegally owning a machine gun.
Previously, Rowser and Derks were charged in a Mississippi state court for first-degree murder in Craig's case, as reported by WLOX, a local news station.
McCarroll and Rowser were also suspected in the Paparazzi Club shooting which occurred in 2022 and resulted in four victims being injured.
Derks, Pierce, and Rowser were also facing charges for a shooting at a Walmart in Mobile that took place in December.
